Leaping for the Long Weekend!

okay, so Charlee really wasn't excited about the long weekend- but she was certainly excited about the good weather that brings out the pool and hose. She is very much a water dog. :)

Didn't your mother ever tell you?

To let sleeping dogs lie?

When you disturb them you are likely to be met with an expression like this...

Daisy was not impressed that I disturbed her afternoon nap for a photo. :)

Be Mine

This is Valentine- she is a German Shorthair puppy and earned her name at a young age because of this:

An almost perfectly shaped heart on her side. Cool eh?

She came for her first visit this past Monday and like all Shorthairs was the life of the party and had no problem making friends.

Unlikely Friends

Duke the Golden came for the first time yesterday and almost immediately buddied up with Murphy the cocker. They pretty well played together all morning. It was pretty cute.

Just Ben

Today is Ben's first day here, but he's an old pro at daycare and has had no problem making new friends.

He is very sweet and is a laid back "just go with the flow" kinda guy.

generally means that Piper is thinking about doing something bad, but in this case I think she's enjoying the sun!

Water Dogs

Okay, I know I posted a blog already today-
but this afternoon we bought a pool.

The dogs were SO excited. Everyone was very wet, and very happy!

Now hopefully they dry before their owners start showing up! :)

Playful

Dictionary.com defines playful as:
full of play or fun; sportive; frolicsome.
pleasantly humorous or jesting

We define playful as Todd. :)

A Rare Moment

of stillness for Molly. She is non stop action the whole time she is here. I managed to snap a photo of her actually standing still and without a crazed, excited expression!

This is Cooper's way of begging for a belly rub....we can never resist giving into him.

Suspicious Minds

I laughed out loud at Maeby's suspicious expression. I think she is wondering where her lunch time meals went. :)

Malamutes on Monday...

Tikaani and Nukka are the new kids today and settled in right away. They are very playful, and have made quite a few new friends.

Tikaani is the darker of the two and is pretty goofy and silly.

Nukka is lighter in color and is super playful and just a little wild...

Both of them have great, happy expressions and always seem to have a smile on their faces!

Quick Draw Leash

So I'm not trying to push the "salesman routine" on you, but I've just been looking more closely at the Ruff Wear items to figure out what we should carry regularly in the store, and I saw a leash I had just ignored the last 2 or 3 times I was on their website.  It isn't particularly pretty or eye catching but it is pure genius.

Looks pretty dull and boring doesn't it?  But wait until you hear....  It is a short leash that you can attach to your dog's collar. But do you see that red tab at the top?  That is velcro.  When you want to let them run off leash, you wrap it around your dog's neck, sort of like a second collar, but then when you need to grab them quickly, the leash is right there already on their collars.  Didn't I tell you?  Genius!  If you want to learn more about it visit here.

Whenever I go for off leash walks I always debate whether or not I should bring the leash and frankly I usually don't as it is just one more thing to carry.  But now I won't have to!  I'm excited.  Can you tell?

Ruff Wear

Sorry for the lack of blogging this week.  Amanda was on vacation and Jo took an unexpected trip home so blogging got put to the back burner.

We did hear some great news though...  We've been approved to be a Ruff Wear dealer.

If you've never heard of Ruff Wear it is probably because there aren't a lot of stores in Alberta that carry the product.  I was looking to purchase a good, comfortable backpack for my dogs and tried out a friend's Ruff Wear one.  Coulee my golden retriever cross, carried 2 litres of water with ease for about 12 km and didn't even act like there was anything on her back.

After one day with the backpack, I was sold.  But do you think I could find one to buy?  No!

I figured if I had trouble finding their products to purchase, everyone else is having the same problem. We are going to be putting in an order Wednesday afternoon and if there is anything specific you'd be interested in please let us know! (info@paws-on-the-run.ca)

Our prices will be a few dollars more than the website prices you see to account for the US exchange, customs, etc. but if you'd like an exact price prior to ordering something, please just let me know.

I've seen a few of their products over the years - some collars and leashes, some toys and now this backpack.  These items were really well made.  They make mainly outdoorsy items - beds for camping, harnesses for helping dogs over obstacles, lifejackets, booties for hiking, etc. but they also have a nice selection of leashes, collars and toys.

Bark in the Park Fun

If you didn't make it out to Windy City Canine Rescue's Bark in the Park event, you missed out on a really fun time!  There were definitely lots of familiar faces....

Barkely won the highest jumper award.  I of course, missed taking a picture of the actual jump but this is when Tammy (Taylor's mom) was awarding him the win!

I did however manage to get one of Kort jumping!

It was a really fun afternoon.  We'll be sure to let you know of their next event.  If you want to see the rest of the pictures, visit the Windy City Canine Rescue website for more info!
