More of our Favourite Toys

Jack

The dogs are still enjoying the toys from West Paw Design. Much to our surprise they are still holding up to the wear and tear here at the daycare. Even the Zisc (frisbee) is still going strong.

We're Hiring!

We are looking to hire an experienced dog groomer. We have part-time hours available to start (15-25 hrs) but as the business grows, we hope to be able to offer full-time hours. The wage is $12 per hour. If you, or anyone you know, is interested, please e-mail any questions or a resume to info@paws-on-the-run.ca or fax it to 394-7781. Please no phone calls or drop in visits to discuss the position as we never know when we are going to have 5 minutes to chat! E-mail is much easier for us, because we can respond when we have a moment.

Manners Class

Just a quick note to let all of you know we have another Manners Class starting up on Thursday, May 15. The class runs for 7 weeks and costs $125. In the class you'll learn how to teach your dog basic obedience (sit, down, stay, come, etc.) and your dog will also learn how to do things like greeting strangers and friends politely. If you are interested, send us a an e-mail and let us know or call us at 394-7780. Just a warning, these classes fill up quickly!

Mine! All Mine!

Dozer was very proud of his Kong today. And he should be. He had to race other dogs to get to it first! Once he had it, he hid under the chair so no one could steal it.

Puppy Picture

If you think Ruby is cute now...

...you should have seen her as a young pup! Ruby's mom sent this to me the other day and I just had to share.

Where there is one...

Chevy and Rico are rarely more than a few feet from one another. They play together, they play with other dogs together and they rest together. Despite being practically joined at the hip, they are very different from each other. Rico is the out-going, confident one and Chevy is much more shy and reserved. Their cutest trick is slowly gathering up all the toys and putting them on a chair. They then sit on their "nest" and protect them from any silly dogs that think that toys are for playing with, not for hoarding!

You can barely see Rico hiding behind Bowser!

Braving the Elements

Amanda couldn't stand it any longer and had to go outside with the dogs - camera in hand of course. There is a big snow drift that the dogs decided had to have some sort of buried treasure in so they looked, and looked, and looked.

Cat for Sale

Cheap too!

Just joking of course!

Slushy Snow

The dogs are having a great time running through the snow. We, on the other hand, are not having a great time standing out there in the cold (I know a bit pathetic but I'm sick, so I deserve a break) so we have no good pictures today. The dogs have to sit perfectly still for a picture to turn out. This is the best I got...I hope it satisfies you!

Flickr Photos

We don't update our flickr site nearly enough but I posted a whole bunch today if you want to check it out...

Fun, Fun, Fun!

The West Paw Design toys arrived this morning and the dogs are having a blast! They are standing up to the wear and tear better than expected. We were a little worried about the Zisc (frisbee) because it is fairly thin but the dogs have been playing tug and it doesn't even have a tooth mark.

New 'Do

The wind did not help Carter's hairdo!

Kato had the same problem. ;)

I'm trying

I'm trying to blog but I can't upload any pictures!!! It just isn't the same without pictures.

The West Paw order is almost here. According to the Fed Ex site it should arrive tomorrow!!! Yippee! That same site has also indicated that it would be here today, then later it said not until Monday and now it says tomorrow, so I'm not sure how much it can be trusted. I'm optimistic though.

Speaking of Toy Obsession...

The Big Red Ball

Back when we first opened, we took this very cute video of Vito and the Big Green Ball.

I didn't have the video camera out today but I caught a series of shots with Chester and the Big Red Ball. He didn't try and herd it like Vito did but he really, really wanted to pick it up. It would have been nice to have sound so you could hear him crying in frustration.

West Paw update

Just to let you know, the West Paw order has finally been shipped! I had hoped it would be shipped earlier this week but it wasn't to be. The Tux (their newest toy) are already sold out and won't be shipped until the end of the month. So unfortunately if you ordered a Tux, it will be a little while longer.

Sorry!

I am copping out with just photos today!

Ember just peeking out to say "Hi!".

Oreo must have been telling lies - his nose doesn't normally look this long!

We are so mean to Chewy. We never told her she had tape on her head.

Tired

Amanda was sitting outside watching the dogs play when she realized a bunch of them were missing. This is what she discovered when she poked her head inside.

Wild Willow

Willow started coming to the daycare just last week. She is a pug/beagle cross that her new owners were expecting to be mellow. Willow is anything but mellow. She is non-stop the entire time she is here but we've heard that she sleeps like a baby at home after spending time at the daycare. Sound familar?

Giddy as a School Girl

We had a last minute visit from some grade 2 students from Enchant. They are studying pets in school and were out in Lethbridge for a field trip. They had a cancellation this morning so they called and asked if they could come for a tour. They got to watch all the dogs running and playing and then we introduced them to a few dogs at a time. Perkins of course, was a big hit.

All the students were great with the dogs - very well mannered and very gentle - and the dogs had a lot of fun visiting with them. They didn't mind the extra treats either!

Take that

This is what Charlee thinks of Amanda's photoshoot.

Shouldn't she be throwing toys instead of taking pictures? Charlee thinks so!

Oh Chewy!

We could have a blog just dedicated to Chewy's sleeping habits. Amanda has struggled to keep this plant alive and Chewy is not helping.

Visitor

Deakon came for a visit yesterday and today. His mom lives in Calgary, but comes down here for work occasionally. He also goes to a daycare in Calgary so he adjusted to the mayhem quite quickly. He is a very handsome fellow who is the largest border collie cross we've seen. He is even bigger than Tazzie (who is crossed with a great Pyrenese).

Tazzie

Any guesses as to Deakon's heritage?

Toys, Toys, Toys

We are going to be ordering some toys from West Paw Design but due to our limited retail space we are going to limit it to Hucks, Hurleys and Tuxes (at least for now). But that doesn't mean we can't special order something in for you! They also sell lots of other toys and beautiful beds for both dogs and cats. If you'd like anything specific, please e-mail us by the morning of Friday April 4 and we'll add it to our order. The prices will be the same as what is listed on their website.

Why have we decided to sell West Paw Design toys? Well for a couple of reasons:

  1. They make good quality toys and beds. Some of their toys (the hucks, hurleys and tuxes for example) are even guaranteed.

  2. They are environmentally friendly. Their Zogoflex toys contain post-industrial recycled plastic, they have organic catnip and cotton beds and their eco toys and beds are made with 85% recycled fibres! By using a product called IntelliLoft in their toys and beds, they've diverted over 165 tons of plastic from the landfill.

  3. They have a great sense of humour. Check out the cat toy Hairball.
  4. They donate beds to the Rolling Dog Ranch. If you've never read their blog before, give it a quick visit. You'll be inspired, brought to tears and laughing out loud - all in one post!

Reason # 1 was enough for us! The rest are just icing on the cake. So if you are interested in anything other than a Huck, Hurley or Tux please let us know by Friday morning!
