A Howling Good Time
The 4th Annual Howl-o-Ween party was a lot of fun! We played games, we ate lots of chocolate, the dogs got to eat cake and we had some off leash fun as well.

We decided to create a Facebook page to help us keep all of you up to date with what is happening at the daycare and with the photography side of the business. Become a fan to make sure you don't miss out on anything!

Seal of Approval
We just received some new toys from West Paw Design. In our order, were some mini Ziscs (aka small frisbees). I was a little worried that the frisbees wouldn't fly very far, because they aren't very big. One of the things I love about the original Ziscs is that they fly really well, even though I'm not very good at throwing frisbees.
So I grabbed one off the shelf and tested it out today with my two dogs.
They loved it! And I loved it too. I think it goes just as far as the big one and Lacey (the smaller dog) was able to carry it and not trip over it.
And just like all their other Zogoflex toys, they are guaranteed to last! AND they are easy to clean....
... which is a very good thing!
So if you are looking for a fun toy for your small (or large) dog, check them out next time you are in. You won't be disappointed.

A Little Drama
My husband and I spent the weekend replacing many of the lights at the daycare (over 50 bulbs!!!). It is much brighter inside now, but I have a feeling my days of taking dramatic door lit shots like this may be over!
Griffin getting a swipe across the face by someone's tail.
Maynard with a smile on his face.
Fundy, working the shadows for added drama.
Matika was born to model!

4th Annual Howl-O-Ween Party
It is almost that time of year again and that means that everyone's favourite dog event is coming soon. Please join us for our 4th Annual Howl-o-ween Party on October 30 from 1-3. This is a free event open to all clients and it is always a lot of fun.
There will be food, games (wiener dunking, musical mats, races, etc.) and prizes for the games as well as the best costumes. Costumes are optional, but are definitely encouraged. After the event, if we have time, we'll have a short session of "indoor dog park" where the dogs can run around and burn off some of that "candy" they'll have eaten.
Please RSVP by Wednesday October 27, to info@paws-on-the-run.ca just to confirm your attendance as we need to know how many people to expect.

Indoor Dog Park and More!
We are going to be offering Indoor Dog Park again this winter! Starting Sunday, November 7 from 10-1, you'll be able to come with your dog and hang out. The cost will be $7 per family (no more than 2 dogs per family) for drop-ins, or you can purchase a Winter Dog Park Pass. The Winter Dog Park Pass is good for the entire Winter Season (until Feb 27, 2011). We will only be selling a limited number of Winter Dog Park Passes and you can purchase one at any time for $85 plus GST. At the start of the Indoor Dog Park season, you'll receive a fun keychain that you'll just need to show us when you arrive on Sundays.
To start we will not be requiring reservations for the Indoor Dog Park. We found in the past that dogs (and their owners) usually petered out after about 1.5 hours of play so we are hoping that the longer hours this year will allow people to be able to drop in at any time, instead of rushing to get here at the start to make sure there were other dogs to play with! This will then ensure there are always dogs here to play AND, we'll be able to accommodate more of you. If we are finding we are too busy or everyone is always arriving at the same time, we'll have to implement a reservation system.
You need to be an existing, regular client to come to Indoor Dog Park. We consider you a "regular" client if your dog has been to daycare at least once in the last 3 months. If your dog hasn't been recently and you'd like to attend the Indoor Dog Park, you'll just need to drop your dog off for a day or two of daycare. We just want to make sure that all the staff are familiar with your dog and their play style and that we have all their current vaccination records.
We are also offering a Dog Play Seminar on Sunday Oct 17 from 1-3 p.m.! At the seminar we'll talk about understanding your dog's body language, what constitutes "good" play and how to recognize rude dog behaviour. We will have a group of dogs playing to show you first hand, how subtle (and sometimes how obvious!) their body language can be. We offered a similar seminar a few years ago and it sold out quickly, so if you are interested, you may want to sign up quickly. You'll learn lots of things that you'll be able to apply when you are at the dog park, or even when a friend's dog comes over to play. The cost for the seminar is $25 plus GST. The course is open to existing clients and the general public as well. Send us an e-mail or give us a call (403-394-7780) if you'd like to sign up for the seminar.
And one last note - We'll be having our Annual Halloween Party on October 30! More information will be coming in an upcoming blog post but trust me, you won't want to miss it!

Well, first of all you'll get a gift basket full of fun prizes! We'll also display an 8x10 photo of them for the following month, which you'll be able to take home when a new dog is drawn.
AND you'll be able to tell all your friends and family that your dog is Dog of the Month! :)
