Appropriately Named

You know how some names just suit some animals so well? Well Kramer here sure has the fur to match his namesake's (at least I am assuming it is his namesake).

You can't see his "sideburns" on the side of his body but trust me...they are wild.

His brother Frodo is his biological brother. Can you see any resemblance? I can't!

And I just had to leave you with this parting shot of Frodo's foot because it was so darn sweet.

PS - The Digger's Delights arrived earlier this week. We have packages of "Broc-oli", "Collie-flower", "Carrot Crunch", "Cheesy Chompers", "Lolli-pups", "Peanut Barkers" and Snack Packs that have contain a variety of the flavours.

Tug

I love watching dogs play together. It is one of the things that makes working at the daycare so much fun. At the daycare though, we have had to restrict toys because of the issues many dogs have over toys (i.e. some dogs feel the need to keep them all to themselves and will do pretty much anything to make sure no one else gets it - Coulee is like this). So it is such a treat for me to see two dogs playing together and sharing toys.

Not too long ago Kaylee got a new little sister named Maggie and she is so good to her. They played tug and wrestled almost constantly when I was there and there wasn't a single growl or even a yelp out of either of them. Kaylee would bring the toy for me to throw, drop it at my feet and if I wasn't quick enough, Maggie would sneak up and steal it...and the game would begin.

Panting Cat

I've never seen a cat as playful as Edward. He just won't quit. His favorite toy is a piece of fur that has been tied to a string. He will chase that fur forever...even if he isn't rewarded by capturing it very often. I was sitting in a chair with my feet on a stool and kept swinging the toy from one side of my legs to the other. Edward would hop up on my legs and down to the ground over and over again in pursuit of the fur. When I finally let him get it, he got a good grip with his paws and then sat and panted. I have never seen a cat pant before! Needless to say, we took it a little slower after this but he still didn't want to quit. Below is a picture of him playing tug-o-war with the same piece of fur. You wouldn't believe his strength! (Sorry for the bad picture. I didn't have my good camera with me)

Do you mind?

I didn't mean to capture this moment on film but it was too funny to delete.

Here are a few "nicer pictures" of Taz. He is three whole pounds of utter cuteness.

Obssession

Little Gyp is obssessed with cats. She doesn't chase them, or prod them, or bark at them...she just stares and stares and stares. While I chatted with her mom yesterday afternoon, Gyp spotted Chewy and spent the next 15 minutes glued to the spot. Someone even came in to ask for a brochure and Gyp didn't even glance up to see who it was. Thankfully Chewy didn't seem to mind the attention.

Digger's Delights!

We are really proud and excited to be carrying Digger's Delights Treats at the daycare starting on Monday. When you get a chance, stop in to check out all the flavours.

Dogs Galore

The other day I brought my camera outside for some more daycare pictures. They dogs don't tend to play much outside but it is the only way I can get half decent pictures.

This is Gus, or Gussy as we tend to call him. He is the life of the party and keeps them all from napping. He really likes big dogs and it seems the bigger, the better. Once while Ponz was trying to sleep, he climbed right on top and when Ponz stood up, Gus was riding him like a horse.

This is Molly Brown. She is such a doll. When she is excited she doesn't run, she bunny hops.

This is Tala. She is a dog that Amanda and Natalie just rescued from the reserve. She is incredibly loveable, great with the other dogs and is even good with cats. She came home with me the last few nights and barely even glanced at Lulu. She sleeps in a crate and only whimpers for about 1 minute before she drifts off to sleep. If you are interested in finding out more about her or any of the other dogs in the Rescue visit their website at Prairie Dog Canine Rescue

And last but not least, here is a picture of loveable Duke.
We aren't sure what he is looking at, but the picture made us smile.

Cat Daycare?

Amanda and I are suckers...a woman walked in with a stray kitten this morning and we somehow ended up with her! We have e-mailed the shelter, humane society and all the vets with her picture. She is very sweet and very cute. She has made herself quite at home sleeping on the desk and doesn't seem to mind the dogs barking in the back. We have named her Chewy...as in chewy bone, not the Star Wars Chewy. If you recognize her please let us know because we'd love to be able to reunite her with her family!

Speaking of kittens, we know of someone who has rescued two out on a ranch that are looking for homes. They are cuddly and playful, orangish and probably around 4 weeks old. If I get any pictures I'll be sure to post them. If you think you might be interested drop us a line... info@paws-on-the-run.ca

Broken Promises

I know I promised you more cat entries but all the pictures I took yesterday, made the most gorgeous cats I've ever met, look either: 1) possessed 2)angry or 3)just plain unattractive. Cats are really clever when it comes to cameras and the flash and will keep their eyes half closed until you are finished! I'll try again today.

So instead, I bring you my favourite recent photo. This is City.

Isn't she beautiful? She is only 3.5 months old. She had a great time yesterday playing with Gus - the other 3.5 month old (picture soon I promise!)and Mira.

New Sign!

We are starting to look like a real business! We installed our sign this morning at the daycare. We love it. As usual the pictures don't do it justice.

Yesterday was our busiest day at the daycare so far with 14 dogs! There was non-stop action all day. If those dogs weren't tired by the end of the day, I don't think anythng will tire them out. A young lab, Gus, came in the afternoon and kept all of them on their toes. I'll try and get a picture of him today (he is awfully cute) but you know, black dog, black floor, black walls...doesn't make for a good photo setting.

For all you cat lovers out there....I'll eventually stop droning on and on about the daycare. I'm just a little obssessed at the moment. :)
